Educational Program Innovations Charity is a family labour of love. A registered Canadian charity and Nova Scotian incorporated society in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, it was founded by Nancy’s husband, Barry N. Waldman in 1996.
Its mission is to advance marginalize learners through innovation, empathy, volunteerism, diversity, and partnership. Its primary initiative is the Youth Peer Breakthrough & Parents PEACE Programs which serve at-risk young people from 8 to 30 and parents with tutoring, mentoring, peer support, volunteer opportunities, education and resource help and encouragement. All programs are free to the participants who are referred by EPIC’s long list of community management team partner organizations. This charity, while small, has been recognized multiple times with competitive, national awards. Because most of the administrative services are volunteered and because EPIC does not pay fund-raisers, over 98% of all the funding goes directly to services.
